Detective Tony Chu Cannibal Volume 1, Taste Death - Guillory & Layman

Summary : The Inspector Tony Chu has donated at least strange: it is cibopathe. This means it is able to trace the psychic nature, origin, history, and even emotions, everything he eats. This did not prevent to be as a policeman quite respectable ... when it does not taste the murdered to discover the identity of the culprit and his motives.

Edition : Delcourt

My Opinion : This is a comic book I want to read for a while already. I must say that the back cover really gives us a hero and a story that looks completely offbeat and quirky, far from the usual super hero that can be discovered. Moreover, coverage really pleased me with his bloody and slightly humorous side and I therefore look forward to reading the first volume of this series.

The original idea of this comic is really original, Tony Chu is a policeman, and like every superhero has a power, but a rather special power, it is cibopathe. When he eats any food he can trace its entire history. Here's one way off hero, really original, sometimes forced to taste his victims to discover the truth.Black humor, very black, which fits perfectly with the universe and that completely changes what we see usually in the comics. I got a good laugh over this first volume before the cynics situations the while dealing with serious subject.

Add to it completely shifted and crazy characters, action and a good dose of humor and that's what hook the reader. My only complaint is that police investigations have seemed too conventional and sometimes lack a little originality and breath. Nothing really disturbing because it reveals still pretty solid and we follow them with some pleasure. In addition the thread that starts slowly up ad a plot that looks interesting. Then comes the surprising conclusion, showing us some aspects of this thread and that really makes you want to discover the rest quickly.

The universe created by the author proves just as quirky as the basic idea, we find ourselves in a world where Avian Influenza has made millions of deaths, where the chicken has become forbidden which led to the emergence of a black market and mafia. But now they say really the truth? Is the avian flu that has done so much harm. Frankly here there is a really strong universe, serious and yet also with its quirky and humorous aspects.

The characters are, as I said, really shifted between Tony Chu who eats victims to discover the truth, his mentor, cibopathe too and also titan and fighting machine or secondary characters who also have their own characteristics, which blend perfectly with the universe and that will surprise the reader will easily attach to them despite their differences. The dialogues are impactful, effective and bring an extra dose of humor.

Regarding the graphics are fairly characteristic and seem way off, much like a detective series for years 70/80 with its pretty colored side and full of vitality. The features are revealed through against very sharp for my taste and it took me a little time to adapt to really get in the pictures, but nothing disturbing well because once past the first few pages I had trouble letting go this first volume and I got a good laugh. Hoping that the next volumes are also successful.

In Summary : I spent some time with the first volume of the comic that has a truly original idea, quirky and efficient with this cibopathe inspector and despite investigations can sometimes be a little too agreed, the author develops a red thread captivating that gets slowly up. The universe appears solid, equally cynical and really reveals interesting to discover. The characters are not lacking in qualities, prove endearing and especially humorous. The graphics are perhaps slightly confusing at first but ultimately are effective with their colorful sides and full of life forces. A first volume more than helpful which made me want to explore later.

My rating : 8/10
